Legal Authority:

Established as a three-member Mojave Public Cemetery District by Board of Supervisors Resolution of March 11, 1940, increased to five-member Board by Resolution 71-817 on October 12, 1971, and name changed to East Kern Cemetery District by Resolution 77-89 on February 17, 1977 pursuant to Section 8950 of the Health & Safety Code.

Membership Qualifications:

Five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Board of Supervisors from electors residing within the East Kern Cemetery District.

Term:

Four-year staggered term or until succeeded.

Duties:

It shall be the responsibility of the District to govern and manage the affairs of the District, guided by laws and regulations as set forth by the Health & Safety Code and by regulations that are promulgated by the Board of Supervisors.

Meeting Place and Time:

East Kern Cemetery District Office 2040 Belshaw Mojave, CA Third Monday of each month at 5:00 P.M.

Compensation:

Members receive compensation of $100 maximum for attendance at meetings listed in District Resolution 07-01 on behalf of the District, provided that such compensation shall not exceed six days in any calendar month.

Ethics Training:

Pursuant to State law, on or after January 1, 2006, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
