Legal Authority:

Established by Board of Supervisors Resolution of June 29, 1954 pursuant to Section 8130 et seq. of the Streets and Highways Code.

Membership Qualifications:

Five (5) members appointed by the Board of Supervisors, three (3) of whom shall be electors in the city and two (2) of whom shall be electors in the unincorporated area within the district.

Term:

Four-year staggered term.

Duties:

It shall be the responsibility of the District to separate dangerous at-grade crossings of streets with streets, and streets with railroads by means of underpasses or overpasses, thereby facilitating the flow of traffic and improving public safety.

Compensation:

None.

Ethics Training:

Pursuant to State law, on or after January 1, 2006, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
