Legal Authority:

Established by Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 77-588, pursuant to Government Code Section 26490.

Membership Qualifications:

Five (5) members: • three (3) ex-officio members including County Clerk, County Librarian, and County Museum Director or designated representative • two (2) members of the general public

Term:

Ex-officio members' terms shall correspond to official tenure, and the two (2) members of the general public shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.

Duties:

The Commission shall meet at least quarterly and shall prepare by June 30 of each year an annual report of Commission activities for the Board. It shall be the responsibility of the Commission to • advise County Departments, and upon request, other public agencies within County as to historical significance of various records in agencies' custody • advise County Departments and other public agencies attempting to preserve, catalog, or exhibit historical records as to best means of so doing • coordinate between private citizens and organizations wishing to donate historical records • provide liaison between Board and State agencies involved with records retention including California Heritage Preservation Commission and Board on matters of policy relating to acquisition, retention, and exhibition of historical records

Meeting Place and Time:

County Clerk's Office 1115 Truxtun Avenue Bakersfield, CA Quarterly, on the call of the Chairman.

Compensation:

None except travel expense as necessary.

Ethics Training:

Pursuant to State law, on or after January 1, 2006, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
