Legal Authority:

Established by Board of Supervisors Minute Order of August 17, 1998 as provided in Section 2.30.010 of the Kern County Ordinance Code. Ordinance G-8514, effective October 21, 2014 revised compensation.

Membership Qualifications:

The Planning Commission shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with each Board member recommending one person. Each Board member's recommendation is not restricted to their respective districts. Members appointed to the Commission must be residents of, or be employed, in Kern County and must have the ability to attend evening meetings twice a month.

Term:

Two-year staggered term.

Duties:

The Commission shall serve as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on General and Specific Plan adoptions and amendments, zoning matters, and Williamson Act matters. The Commission shall serve as a decision making body on tentative tract maps, conditional use permit applications, surface mine and reclamation plans, and secondary residential unit requests. In addition to the above, the Commission shall act on referrals from the Board of Supervisors and/or the Planning Director.

Meeting Place and Time:

Kern County Board of Supervisors Chambers 1115 Truxtun Avenue Bakersfield, CA On the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 P.M.

Compensation:

$150 per meeting, plus travel expenses as set forth in Chapter 2.30.050 of the Kern County Ordinance Code.

Ethics Training:

Pursuant to State law, on or after January 1, 2006, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
