Legal Authority:

Established by Board of Supervisors Resolution of August 26, 1957, pursuant to Chapter 6, Paragraph 8950 of the California Health and Safety Code. Minute Order of July 11, 1995 to change name of District to South Kern Cemetery District (formerly Arvin Public Cemetery District); March 11, 2008 District requested staggered terms; September 14, 2010 Resolution 2010-273 increased number of trustees to five.

Membership Qualifications:

The District shall be governed and managed by five (5) trustees, as specified in the Resolution 2010-273 adopted by the Board of Supervisors on September 14, 2010. The trustees shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Trustees shall be appointed from electors residing within the district. The district boundary includes property located within the second, fourth and fifth supervisorial districts.

Term:

The trustees shall hold office for four (4) years and until appointment and qualifications of their successors.

Duties:

It shall be the responsibility of the District to govern and manage the affairs of the District, guided by laws and regulations as set forth by the California Health and Safety Code and by regulations that are promulgated by the Kern County Board of Supervisors.

Meeting Place and Time:

Compensation:

Trustees shall serve with compensation of $100 per meeting, not to exceed a total of $400 in any calendar month; necessary expenses of each member for actual traveling in connection with meetings or business of the board shall be paid.

Ethics Training:

Pursuant to State law, on or after January 1, 2006, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
