On May 10, 2011, the Board of Supervisors took action to approve restated bylaws for Kern County Museum Foundation, and assigned administrative responsibility of Kern County Museum to the Parks and Recreation Department, effective July 1, 2011; restated bylaws approved on July 17, 2012 increasing membership by two; restated bylaws approved on June 10, 2014.
Nine (9) member Board of Trustees. Trustees shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors, at its discretion, upon nomination by a majority of the votes of the authorized number of Trustees of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees should consider nomination of at least one (1) representative from the Kern County Superintendent of Schools or another school-related member (education member); however, these are not mandatory criteria. One (1) Trustee shall be a Kern County Department Head designated by the Board of Supervisors.
Each Trustee shall hold office for three (3) years and can be reappointed for additional three year terms.
The Kern County Museum Foundation shall • provide operational support by employing staff and engaging in the day-to-day operations of the Kern Pioneer Village (formerly Kern County Museum) to preserve historic artifacts, documents, photographs, structures, collections, and other such items that represent the area's past • raise, gather, and collect monies to be used toward the support, enhancement, enrichment, and operation of the Museum • carry on other charitable and educational activities associated with this goal as allowed by law within the meanings set forth in Sections 170(c) and 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended
Meetings of the Board of Trustees shall be held at any place within or without the County of Kern, State of California, which has been designated from time to time by the Board. In the absence of designation, regular meetings shall be held at the principal office of the Foundation. The regular Board meeting in July shall be known as the annual meeting.
Trustees and members of committees may receive such reimbursement for expenses as may be fixed by the Board of Trustees. The Trustees shall not be compensated for their services.
Pursuant to State law, any person newly appointed shall successfully complete a course in ethics training approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and Attorney General. Each member is required to complete this training every two years.
