Legal Authority:

On December 29, 2011, the California Supreme Court upheld ABx1 26, resulting in the dissolution of Redevelopment Agencies (RDA) and the creation of Successor Agencies and Oversight Boards. Per the RDA Dissolution Statutes, all local Oversight Boards for each of the County's Successor Agencies must consolidate into a countywide board.

Membership Qualifications:

Seven (7) members, including • two (2) members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one (1) member representing the public • one (1) member appointed by the City Selection Committee • one (1) member appointed by the Independent Special District Selection Committee • one (1) member appointed by the County Superintendent of Education • one (1) member appointed by the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges • one (1) member appointed by the recognized employee organization with the largest member of Successor Agency employees (SEIU)

Term:

To serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Duties:

The Kern Countywide Oversight Board has fiduciary responsibility to holders of enforceable obligations and the taxing entities that benefit from distribution of property tax and other revenues pursuant to Health and Safety Code (HSC) Section 34188 (ABx1 26 as amended by AB 1484).
