SUPERVISOR PARRA REPORTED ON THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING WHICH HE AND SUPERVISOR PETERSON ATTENDED. NUMEROUS ISSUES OF MUTUAL CONCERN BETWEEN THE CITY AND COUNTY WERE IDENTIFIED AND WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO RESPECTIVE MEMBERS FOR REVIEW.



SUPERVISOR PATRICK ATTENDED THE CSAC HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING IN SACRAMENTO AND REPORTED THAT THE COUNTY SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO RECEIVE ANY REVENUES FROM THE TOBACCO SETTLEMENT UNTIL FISCAL YEAR 2000-2001. SHE ALSO LEARNED THAT CALWORKS SANCTIONS AGAINST THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA MAY BE DETRIMENTAL TO KERN COUNTY EVEN THOUGH THE COUNTY HAS MET OR EXCEEDED FEDERAL "WELFARE TO WORK" STANDARDS.



SUPERVISOR MCQUISTON REPORTED THAT HE AND SUPERVISOR PEREZ ATTENDED THE QUARTERLY MEETING OF THE SOUTHWEST DEFENSE ALLIANCE IN COLLABORATION WITH FIVE SOUTHWESTERN STATES TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO MINIMIZE THE IMPACT OF MILITARY BASE CLOSURES IN CALIFORNIA
